SpeedTouchConf

Alcatel SpeedTouch USB Modem - Linux Configuration : Translation

i18n (internationalisation) is the process of getting the script ready for international text - I've done that bit.
l10n (localisation) is the process of translating the strings into other languages - I used to have good enough French and German to do those translations, but have lost the ability entirely in the past decade of hardly using the languages.

Currently, Italian and Spanish translations are available. Danish, Polish, Dutch and Singapore translations of the suggested VPI/VCI config are also available, though the main script runs in English.

A mailing list for people interested in localisation of the speedtouchconf script is hosted by SourceForge:

See po/TRANSLATION_HOWTO.txt for details of how to contribute. You can translate as many or as few strings as you like - if there's more than a tiny amount of interest in this I'll open a CVS tree for i18n.

In a nutshell, you just need to create a file like this:
msgid ""
msgstr ""
"MIME-Version: 1.0\n"
"Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1\n"
"Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8-bit\n"

# Now start translating / changing stuff. You can add yourself
# a credit as a part of the "translation" like this:

msgid "* speedtouchconf.sh by Steve Parker *"
msgstr ""
"* speedtouchconf.sh by Steve Parker *\n"
"* Give yourself a credit line here (ending *\n"
"* lines with the backslash-n sequence ) *"

# Then go through the text in the script, and add the translations
# into the appropriate language.

msgid "Failed to change to $HOMEDIR"
msgstr "N'a pas changén /$HOMEDIR"

An Italian translation has already been contributed into the 22 May 2004 release (thanks Andrea); a Polish translation has also been offered.
